We fell in love with Les Chouettes, 1800 century French cottages to rent on the outskirts of the village of Tremolat in the Dordogne, with its sparkling swimming pool. We were so inspired by the people, the food, the culture, the history of the area that we decided to invest in this property and we renovated the cottage and the barn in order to make it available to rent.

Les Chouettes, (The Owls) the name of our property, is a great base from where to experience the villages of the Dordogne, as you are able to visit the markets and enjoy try your hand at cooking and combining different flavors in your own kitchen. A Michelin Star restaurant, Le Vieux Logis, is just down the road. As well as a excellent Bistro, Wine bar, Pizzeria and a farm restaurant on the hill behind the village.
Our Perigordian cottage was once an old farmhouse, typical in style, with tall “sway” rooftops. It is called Les Chouettes – which in French means “The Owls”. One can often hear the owls in the early evening, or if you happen to look up to see one perched high on the roof.
We love the old farmhouse as it captures the old French charm. This is a perfect family holiday destination which can accommodate up to 8 guests in the four bedrooms: 3 double bedrooms and 1 bedroom with twin beds. The cottage has the perfect kitchen/dining room, a comfortable living room with a lovely fireplace for the cold winter evenings. There is a great swimming pool for those steamy days, making this a great holiday venue for your family or for a group of friends needing an escape from the stresses of modern day living. Rented with the barn next door it is a great place for large family and friend get togethers.
In the adjacent barn, we find three double bedrooms, two bathrooms, one with a sleeper couch, another with an extra single bed, to enable the unit to sleep eight. You will also find a private plunge pool. The double volume open plan lounge/kitchen area is a favorite room for the guests.
Of course, it doesn’t matter if you visit in Summer or Winter as there is so much you can do in the Dordogne region of France in either season. We at Les Chouettes offer everything you need in a French Holiday Rental – a great place to unwind and enjoy the local atmosphere.
You can hike or ride through the countryside (we have 10 bicycles for you to choose from on site) or simply soak up the afternoon sun with a good book and a glass of wine. Nearby are historical sites to explore, architecture, nature or adventure.
Delicious meals at Les Vieux Logis, Tremolat’s Michelin star restaurant, the local Bistro en face Tremolat, Les Truffiers Tremolat or “Nulle Part” the Village pizzeria, really provide a gastronomic delights.
Of course with the rich variety of fresh produce and delicacies at the local markets you may want to try your hand at cooking. Our favourite, is a meal with magret de canard or omelette with truffles- how decadent!
